Yawn, Yawn, Yawn.
So....the summer is over, the reunions are over and nobody has anything to say. That's not the Vernonia I grew up in, someone always had something to say.
I notice alot of you check the website out daily (me being one of them) and yet...never make a post or a comment. This website is so we can keep in touch and see what our friends are up to.
Somebody say something.......

"SOMETHING"
Sorry Deb, couldn't resist!
Does anybody have a picture of the new middle school they could post on here? If not maybe I can get around to getting one this weekend to post on here for those that haven't seen it.
That topic in itself should be able to stir up some conversation.
What are your thoughts and/or comments on the new Middle School?
My youngest son is in 7th Grade and going to the new school. He's not real talkative, but it sounds like the kids like it.
Hey, by the way, Vernonia's first home football game is this Friday, (9/9/05). I think kick-off is at 7:00.
Come and cheer for the LOGGERS!

The new middle school is between Washington Grade school and the High school.
They took out some of the big fir trees when they put the covered play are in, and then took some more out to build the middle school. I think it is suppose to have a new cafeteria in it also. I know that Tammy can fill in more info on it than I can, since she is living in Vernonia.

| As Debbie said the new middle school is between the Grade School and the High School. They took down some trees and brought in LOT'S of fill dirt. It is for Grades 6 - 8. There are 6 classrooms, 2 locker rooms and a cafeteria, as well as the offices for the Middle School Principal and Secretary (Patty (Haymeyer) Fetherston). This is were all grades (K-12) have lunch now. This is also where all the kids get on and off of the buses. They us that driveway that always connected the Grade School to the High School for the buses, and there is a drive through area in the front of the middle school for the parents to drop off or pick up kids. They have Bridge street in front of the Grade School and Middle School blocked off and no parking is allowed there. The intention is to cut down on the congestion through there before and after school and to make it safer for the kids when crossing. (No more darting out from between parked cars) They still aren't completely done with the building. From what I've heard they just need to do final touches like door knobs, some lights, and most importantly LOCKERS! Those back packs full of books are bit heavy for those kids to be carrying. Especially the walkers, like my son! I didn't make it down to get pictures, but if you get the Vernonia Independent (local paper) there are pictures on the front of the last issue. |

Nope, don't get the Vernonia paper anymore. Guess I will have to wait until someone in Vernonia decides to post some pictures on this site. Sounds all very interesting and hard to imagine trees being cut down...the space between Washington and the high school all used up. _________________ Gayle (Welch) Yokley

Thanks for posting the web site, Kelly! It 's hard to tell by the photo, but it almost looks as though the building is a metal building. _________________ Gayle (Welch) Yokley

WOW Kelly. I just looked at the Vernonia School District Website the other day and that wasn't on there. I guess I'll go check it out further.
Yes, it is a metal structure. What you can't tell from the photo is that the front and sides have a brick overlay. So it does blend in with the Grade School and High School. |
